Jillyan Schmidt – MA, LIMHP
Mental Health Therapist
I attended Doane College while pursuing my master’s in counseling and had the privilege to participate in an internship at Fillmore County Hospital and upon my graduation that internship turned into a job offer.
I am passionate about my job because I love what I get to do and the individuals I get to work with. What I enjoy about my job and what makes it so unique is the diversity of clientele and integration I get to experience. My job is unique in the fact that I get the chance to work with individuals, ranging in ages from infancy to geriatrics, in a variation of settings, and I am privileged to work within an environment that supports and advocates for integrated treatment which supports total patient care. As I stated previously, I have experience working with all ages, but my specialty is working with children, adolescents, and teenagers.
My clinical experience includes:
ADD/ADHD, Oppositional Defiant disorder, Anxiety, autism, Trauma, Depression, Disruptive behaviors, Emotional dysregulation, low self-esteem, impulse control, verbal/physical aggression, mood disorders, couples and family therapy, school counseling, chronic pain/pain management, cardiac rehabilitation, pulmonary rehabilitation, and pediatric behavioral therapy.
I have received training and certification in areas of ADHD/ADD, Autism, Oppositional defiant disorder, Anxiety, attachment disorders, play therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy. I believe in using play therapy with children as this is the most natural form of communication for them.
Toys are used like words for children, and play is their language. -Gary Landreth.
