Laurin Schleif

Mental Health Therapist

I was born and raised in rural Nebraska. I attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney where I obtained my Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice in 2018 and my Master of Science in Education Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2021.

I first gained experience in the counseling field while working at South Central Behavioral Services in Hastings, NE. I was able to work with teens through older adults who were experiencing mental health and/or addiction concerns, which are both areas I am passionate about. I am a registered provider of substance use services and provide evaluations in the state of Nebraska that allows me to work with youth and adults within the criminal justice system.

I have learned about and have been able to observe the connection between people’s thoughts, emotions, and actions to better assist them. I am skilled in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help people recognize their thoughts and how they interact as well as impact their emotions and actions. CBT can be beneficial for a wide array of mental health concerns such as occasional anxiety to severe and persistent depression and/or addiction issues as well. I believe that once a person is more aware of their thoughts, the more they can recognize any internal or external barriers that could potentially keep them from experiencing positive change.

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” – Albert Einstein
